HFA’s TLC is closing as of 12/31/2020
What? Why? And what’s next? We’re here to answer your questions.
HFA’s Interim Wraparound Plan
You can access the full interim wraparound plan here on HFA’s Network Resources.
Some of the trainings in the plan are existing training resources that HFA has developed to meet training standards. Others are trainings developed by other organizations for family support professionals. None of the trainings carry a fee.
Many of the trainings have been developed by the Institute for the Advancement of Family Support Professionals, which was developed through a MIECHV Innovation grant in partnership with several states and partner organizations to create training for home visitors. Several others were shared with us through the Oregon State University Essentials of Parenting Education Professional Practice, a set of free online courses for parent educators. We are grateful to these partners for their work in developing quality professional development opportunities and making them widely available.
HFA sites have always been able to meet the standards related to wraparound training through a variety of formats. We encourage sites to consider what works best for their staff, in the context of the site itself and the community and families served. No site is required to complete this training plan in order to meet the standard.
New staff who complete all of the trainings assigned to an individual standard will meet the requirements for that standard. Staff who complete all of the trainings in the wraparound training plan will meet all of the standards listed there.
Yes. HFA recognizes that in some cases sites will find that they were unable to meet training timeframes due to these changes. In the same way that HFA extended training timeframes for core training due to COVID, these timeframes can be extended as well. Sites are encouraged to document reasons why timeframes were missed so that information can be provided to peer reviewers if needed.
In recognition of the current situation, HFA will be extending some flexibility around the subtopic areas of the wraparound training standards. While the current standards require that training meets ALL listed subtopics, the Interim Wraparound Training Plan covers the majority of these subtopics. Trainings selected by sites to meet these standards will only need to meet the majority of subtopics as listed in each individual third order standard as well
HFA is committed to making high-quality professional development opportunities to meet wraparound training standards at no cost to sites. As the current Best Practice Standards are currently under revision, HFA plans to develop model-specific wraparound trainings in alignment with the new standards following their release in 2022. These training will be hosted on the HFA Learning Management system to make access and tracking easier.
Sites will need to track completion of trainings in this plan at the site level. Since the trainings come from a variety of sources, there will not be a centralized transcript for these trainings as there was for TLC. As with all wraparound trainings, sites will not need to have certificates of completion for these trainings, but if using the Interim Plan, sites will need to document the dates that each training is completed. HFA has developed a tracking document specific to this plan for that purpose.
In addition, we recommend that site staff create an account in the Institute website to facilitate tracking of those and any other trainings completed through this site. The Institute also allows sites to assess staff in a variety of home visiting competency areas to develop an individualized training plan to support staff beyond the first year of wraparound training.
To access the HFA trainings related to Family Goals, Intimate Partner Violence and Prenatal home visiting, it will be necessary to log-in to Network Resources on the HFA website. If you are having trouble connecting, see this trouble-shooting guide.
