HFA partners with the Administration for Children and Families to recognize Child Tax Credit (CTC) Awareness Day
Starting July 15 and through the end of the year, most families will receive a monthly payment of $300 per child under 6 and $250 per child ages 6-17. The IRS has launched a simplified online tool which will allow families not automatically enrolled in the program because they did not have to file taxes last year to receive the Child Tax Credit. Families can also visit ChildTaxCredit.gov to learn more about this important benefit.

A Message from Dr. Merrick: Supporting the Health, Safety, and Well-being of Transgender and Non-binary Youth and Families
Sixteen states are considering legislation that would restrict physicians from providing medically necessary gender-affirming care to youth, and one state recently enacted such a law. Several of these bills would also criminalize parents who affirm their children’s gender identity, defining such affirmation as child abuse. These laws stand in direct opposition to the evidence-based care recognized by numerous professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Medical Association, Endocrine Society, and American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

We attempted to answer questions and allay fears about safety and freedoms that we take for granted in a democratic society. As if parenting during a global pandemic was not hard enough, parenting during such deeply disturbing events shook many of us to the core.

There is a maternal health and mortality crisis in this country. I have seen how it devastates families and staff in the communities we serve at our Healthy Families America (HFA) affiliate sites across the country. We mourn the lives that have already been lost—mothers, daughters, cousins, aunts, friends, community leaders, beloved employees, and so many more. To honor their memory, we in the home visiting field must pledge to do better.

Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America) announced today that its signature evidence-based home visiting program, Healthy Families America (HFA), has received the highest rating—“well-supported”—from the Title IV-E Prevention Services Clearinghouse.
