No home-visiting model has been studied as rigorously or extensively as HFA. In fact, since 1996 more than 225 different studies on the Healthy Families America home visiting model have validated our positive impact.
HFA demonstrates positive outcomes in all eight domains examined by the Home Visiting Evidence of Effectiveness (HomVEE) review for the MIECHV program, including an increase in positive parenting practices; improvement in child health; reduction in child maltreatment; improvement in families’ economic self-sufficiency; reduction in juvenile delinquency, family violence, and crime; improvement in child development and school readiness; improvement in maternal health; increase in linkages and referrals to essential community services; gains in parent education; and reductions in community-wide costs compared to state costs.

You can also read a summary of HFA’s impact from hundreds of studies, or review a list of more than 40 independent evaluation studies of HFA from across 22 states.
Home visiting sites that have been operating for some period of time, along with new sites just starting up, can connect with the HFA national office to be licensed to use the HFA model. Completion of the affiliation process reflects a community’s commitment to implementing HFA, based on 12 critical elements. This commitment is validated when the program becomes accredited and maintains accreditation over time.
To become a HFA affiliate, you must fill out the HFA affiliation application, which includes:
- An application form requesting general site information, demographics, staff, and funding information;
- A complete implementation plan, requiring in-depth descriptions about how the HFA model will be implemented locally;
- A signed commitment to the HFA critical elements; and
- A $500 affiliation application fee, payable to Prevent Child Abuse America (this fee is non-refundable).
As mentioned above, there is a $500 application fee, payable to Prevent Child Abuse America. This fee is non-refundable.
Additionally, every HFA program is responsible for payment of an annual fee once affiliation is granted. This will be invoiced upon confirmation of affiliation. The annual affiliation fee for sitesis $5,000.
Once you submit a request and receive an affiliation application form from the HFA national office, things can move quickly. Approval often takes less than a month.
Once approved, core training begins and you can immediately begin providing HFA home visiting.
The timeline is simple:
6 months after affiliation
Core training should be complete for all staff that started on your affiliation date.
1 year after affiliation
Time to start the process for accreditation. Your implementation specialist will be in touch to start the process, which, at this stage, includes completing an accreditation application and scheduling your site visit, to occur in about 12 months.
2 years after affiliation
Time for your site visit. You have been preparing your self-study over the past several months and getting ready for this next step in accreditation.
