Kathy Astin

Training & Technical Assistance Specialist

Kathy Astin has a master’s degree in counseling from National Louis University, in Wheaton, Illinois. She is the Implementation Specialist for Healthy Families America National Office, is also a Peer Reviewer and sits on the HFA Accreditation Panel. Kathy began her career with Healthy Families America (HFA) in 1998 at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Aurora IL.  There she started as a home visitor working with at risk families in the community and later becoming the program manager for the Healthy Families Illinois program. Throughout her 14 years with the FQHC, Kathy provided oversight to several community health programs including HFA, Women, Infants & Children (WIC), Family Case Management (FCM), Centering Pregnancy, Centering Diabetes and Community Mental Health. Kathy was an active member of the Exchange Club of Aurora for 10 years and served as President from 2007-2008. During this term, Kathy spearheaded the Downtown Aurora Taste, a volunteer event to raise funds to support local domestic violence and child abuse prevention programs. This event still runs strong today. Kathy has 4 adult children and now resides on the east coast near Raleigh, NC with her husband and two labradoodles. Kathy enjoys gardening, traveling and music festivals.
