Guiding Questions

1) Having elected officials visit your program can be extremely effective way for them view the effects of your program. Prior to their visit have you:

  • Invited your official in writing?
  • Prepared an agenda for 1-2 hour visit?
  • Briefed staff, board members, families, meeting attendees on the visiting official, proper addressing of title and desired outcome(s) of the meeting?

2) Does your visit include:

  • A tour of the facility?
  • Time to meet with families, staff, volunteers, Board members?
  • Concise information on number of people served, current funding levels, measurable outcomes, estimated cost of treatment vs. prevention?
  • Discussion of current funding needed?
  • Photo opportunities?
  • Securing the support of the official or some form of next steps/follow-up?
